Connecticut added an online casino and sports-wagering provision to its sweepstakes law on October 1, 2025, with an exception for chapter 229b licensees.

Connecticut added a specific online-gaming provision to its sweepstakes law on October 1, 2025. Section 14 of Public Act 25-112 expanded the covered conduct to include sweepstakes or promotional drawings that allow or facilitate participation in real or simulated online casino gaming or sports wagering, unless the person conducting or promoting them is licensed under chapter 229b.
The codified statute retains a limited exception for grocery chains with at least five establishments. Their sweepstakes must relate to grocery sales, with prizes that cannot be redeemed for cash and can only discount purchases from that chain.
For players, the practical change was aimed at the availability of online casino-style or sports-wagering promotions run by unlicensed businesses. Violations of the relevant subsection are treated as unfair or deceptive trade practices, giving the provision a consumer-protection enforcement route.
